Jacob Edgar of CUMBANCHA RECORDS asked me to shoot the band during a recent performance here and he also then arranged for a studio session while the band was enroute from Montreal to Boston. This is one of my favorite images that I
If you ever get a chance to catch Rupa and her Fishes you will not be disappointed. In June Rupa and her band will be touring thru Europe but back in the States and Canada in June. You can catch them in the likes of NYC in Central Park in late June and on July 5th during the Montreal Jazz fest and then they back touring on the west coast in the end of July. You'll think you stepped into a scene in some crazy movie with a bunch of gypsies!!! Really folks, Rupa is a can't miss act. Plus, she's a doctor of internal medicine too which is really cool!!!
The background was a simple "fashion gray" seamless Savage paper backdrop. Lighting was provided by a single Dynalite 4040 head mounted in a medium soft box to my left.
Exposure was at 1/125th of a second at F16 at 100 ISO (focal length 105mm)

Jacob Edgar of the record label Cumbancha, in conjunction with the worldmusic label Putumayo, brought yet another great show to Higher Ground'sShowcase Lounge back on November 22nd. Tinariwen is a musical act formed in 1982 in Moammar al-Qadhafi's camps ofTuareg rebels. They play in the Tishoumaren ("music of the unemployed")style, and sing mostly in the French and Tamashek languages. Their songsmostly cover the subject of independence for their people from thegovernment of Mali. They are said to be the first Tuareg band to useelectric guitars.

I'm not sure if and when Jacob is planning on showcasing another great worldmusic talent to the Burlington area, but if he does - you really shouldcheck it out. His recent showcases have featured the likes of performerssuch as Andy Palacio, Dobet Gnahoré and Vieux Farka Touré. These shows arenot to be missed.
Lighting was provided by a Dynalite head fired thru a softbox.
